Kids Own Elkhorn Ave Halloween Night - Park Accordingly |
The Town's shutting down Elkhorn Avenue on Halloween night, 5 to 7 PM, Spruce Drive to East Riverside, so the kids can own the street without dodging Subarus full of leaf-peepers chasing gold that already blew into Wyoming.
Street closures start at 4:15, which gives the businesses time to set up their candy bowls and gives you time to find parking before chaos descends.
Town’s got the usual safety reminders: reflective costumes, no capes dragging on the pavement like you’re auditioning for a superhero sequel, and flashlights after dark. Basic stuff. Mo Pass read me the list yesterday and asked if people really need to be told not to run into traffic. I told him that after all these years, he still gives folks too much credit.
If you're a business wanting to join the candy brigade, email Carissa at the Chamber (simplyxmas07@gmail.com). And if you're planning to drive through downtown between 5 and 7, don't. Grab dinner, take a walk, let the kids have their night. You can reclaim Elkhorn Avenue on November 1st. . |

Clash of the Titans: Bull Season in the Rockies |
When love’s in the air, peace and quiet take a back seat.
If you’ve stepped outside lately, you’ve probably heard it — that sharp, echoing crack rolling across the meadow when two bull elk decide diplomacy’s overrated. That’d be the bull elk, settling annual disputes over who gets bragging rights — and who gets to hang out with the ladies.
The rut’s winding down, but a few late-season challengers are still out there, antlers clashing, egos bruising, and tourists gasping from a little too close. Every year, Mo Pass bets me which bull’s gonna back down first. Every year, he’s wrong.
If you happen to catch the action, keep your distance and your zoom lens handy. What looks majestic from afar gets dangerous up close — those antlers aren’t props, and those bulls aren’t in the mood for guests.
Mountain takeaway: Sometimes the smartest move in the mountains is knowing when not to charge.
