Rocky Mountain National Park Offers Ranger-Led Winter Programs in 2026

Experience the serene beauty of the Rockies through guided snowshoe walks and educational activities

Winter transforms Rocky Mountain National Park into a tranquil wonderland, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore its snow-covered landscapes.

For those prepared for the season's challenges, the park provides a variety of ranger-led programs designed to enhance the winter experience.

On the east side, near Estes Park, families can participate in Kid-Friendly Snowshoe Walks every Saturday at 2 p.m., starting January 24 through March 21, 2026.

These one-hour sessions introduce beginners to snowshoeing amidst the picturesque surroundings of Sprague Lake.

Participants must bring their own snowshoes and wear appropriate winter attire, including waterproof boots.

Advanced reservations are required and can be made online.

For those seeking a more challenging adventure, the park offers Snowshoe Hikes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 p.m., from January 27 to March 19, 2026.

These two-hour hikes traverse hilly, snow-covered meadows and forests at elevations between 9,400 and 9,700 feet.

Suitable for participants aged 8 and older, these hikes require a good level of physical fitness.

As with the beginner walks, participants must provide their own snowshoes and dress appropriately for winter conditions.

Reservations open seven days prior to each hike and can be made online.

In addition to outdoor activities, visitors can engage in hands-on learning at RockyLAB.

Starting January 23, 2026, the Fall River Visitor Center hosts drop-in sessions from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Fridays through Mondays.

These sessions offer interactive science and nature activities suitable for all ages.

Children must be accompanied by an adult, and all materials are provided.

On the park's west side, near Grand Lake, Kid-Friendly Snowshoe Walks are available on Fridays at 1:30 p.m., beginning January 16 through March 15, 2026.

These walks are ideal for children aged 5 and older.

Snowshoes are provided, but participants should wear appropriate winter clothing, including waterproof boots.

Advanced reservations are necessary and can be made by calling 970-627-3471.

For those interested in a more strenuous activity, Snowshoe Hikes are offered on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30 p.m., from January 17 to March 16, 2026.

These hikes are suitable for participants aged 8 and older and cover hilly, uneven terrain.

Snowshoes are provided, but appropriate winter attire is required.

Reservations can be made by calling 970-627-3471.

For a comprehensive list of all winter programs and activities, visitors are encouraged to check the park's official channels.

These programs are made possible by the Rocky Mountain Conservancy.
