Hidden Valley Sledding Conditions Deteriorate Amid Lack of Snow |
Visitors Advised to Exercise Caution and Consider Alternative Winter Activities |
Recent weather patterns have led to poor sledding conditions at Hidden Valley in Rocky Mountain National Park.
The area has experienced minimal snowfall, resulting in exposed rocks and vegetation on the sledding hill. Additionally, the existing snow is hard-packed and icy, increasing the risk of accidents. Given these conditions, visitors are urged to plan their sledding activities carefully.
It's recommended to sled feet-first and have a strategy for slowing down and stopping safely.
Remember, Hidden Valley is the only designated sledding area within the park.
Located approximately seven miles from the Beaver Meadows and Fall River Entrance Stations along Trail Ridge Road, the area offers amenities such as flush restrooms open daily and a warming hut available during limited weekend hours.
However, the sledding hill is unstaffed, and there are no tow facilities or equipment rentals on-site.Visitors should bring their own plastic sleds, tubes, or saucers, as sleds with metal runners are prohibited.
Given the current conditions, exploring alternative winter activities may be advisable. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are popular options in the park, with many trails accessible from the Bear Lake area.
Before heading out, ensure you're prepared for winter conditions.Dress warmly, use traction devices when walking on icy paths, and always check the latest weather forecasts and trail conditions.
